A former Playmate model has fallen to her death with her seven-year-old son from the window of a New York City hotel, local media say.

Both the 47-year-old woman, named as Stephanie Adams, and the boy were pronounced dead at the scene, the Gotham Hotel in midtown Manhattan.

She was in a bitter custody battle with her estranged husband over the child, according to the New York Post.

Ms Adams reportedly checked into a 25th-floor penthouse suite on Thursday.

Police said the pair, whom they did not identify but said were believed to be mother and son, landed on a second-floor balcony on Friday morning.

A waiter at the hotel’s restaurant told the New York Daily News: “One of the guests of the hotel they called the lobby.

“They said, ‘We saw a dead body.’ They said one but then they realised there [were] two.”

According to her website, Ms Adams was Playboy’s Miss November 1992 and once dated Hollywood actor Robert De Niro.

Her biography says she was twice married, firstly to an Italian investment banker, and “briefly” to another man, both of whom she divorced.

Local media said she was in a bitter custody battle with one ex-husband, whom they named as the owner of a chiropractic clinic, over their son, Vincent.

On her website, she also said she authored new age books, astronomy calendars and tarot cards.
