Princeton University Professor Compares Climate Change Deal To Appeasing Hitler – Patch.com

PRINCETON, NJ — A Princeton University professor compared last year’s Paris Agreement on climate change to the appeasement of Adolf Hitler before World War II on national TV over the weekend. At the same time, fellow panelist Bill Nye was critical of both William Happer and CNN, for including Happer in the Earth Day discussion. Happer is a professor of physics at the university, a science adviser to President Donald Trump and a climate change skeptic.

In the video below, Happer compares the agreement to “the Munich agreements Chamberlain signed.” When pressed by CNN’s Victor Blackwell, Happer said the comparison is appropriate because they are both treaties that won’t do any good.

“Even if you take the alarmist computer models, the effects on the Earth’s climate are trivial,” Happer said. “It will not make any difference, and yet it will cause enormous harm to many people.”

“I will say, much as I love CNN, you’re doing a disservice by having one climate change skeptic, and not 97 or 98 scientists or engineers concerned about climate change,” Nye said in the video posted below.

Happer is part of a minority of people who don’t believe climate change is the result of man-made policies, although he acknowledges its existence.

“Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals show that 97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree: Climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities. In addition, most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position. The following is a partial list of these organizations, along with links to their published statements and a selection of related resources, according to a report by NASA.

In 2015, Happer testified that he believes global warming may be good for the Earth, according to the Washington Post.

The “benefits that more [carbon dioxide] brings from increased agricultural yields and modest warming far outweigh any harm,” he said during his testimony.

Happer and Nye appeared on CNN on Earth Day, the same day tens of thousands of people braved the elements as part of the March for Science at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Nye participated in that march, and there were another 500 communities across the planet that participated in the march.
