It’s football playoff time in Louisiana – Monroe News Star

Northeast Louisiana was once again well represented when the LHSAA released the 2014 football playoff brackets on Sunday morning.

A total of 23 teams from the area qualified for the postseason and will compete for the chance to win a state championship in their respective classifications.

Perennial Class 5A contender West Monroe locked up the nine-seed and hosts No. 24 Sam Houston on Friday night at Don Shows Field at Rebel Stadium. The Ruston Bearcats are also hosting at James Field at L.J. “Hoss” Garrett Stadium and welcome No. 22 Scotlandville to Lincoln Parish.

The Ouachita Lions entered the final two games of the regular season on the 5A bubble and played their way into a 28-seed, where they’ll travel to five-seed Haughton in the Shreveport area.

The region is well represented in the Class 4A bracket with every team from District 2-4A in the field, highlighted by second-seeded Neville. The Tigers host No. 31 Riverdale Friday at Bill Ruple Stadium.

In a district rematch, No. 25 Franklin Parish once again takes on the Bastrop Rams, the eight seed. No. 18 West Ouachita and No. 23 Wossman are both on the road, traveling to No. 15 Breaux Bridge and No. 10 Edna Karr, respectively.

Defending Class 3A state champions Union Parish locked up the four seed and face 29-seed Madison in a District 2-3A rematch at ‘Doc’ Elliott Stadium in Farmerville. The Rayville Hornets are also at home as the nine-seed hosting No. 24 Jewell Sumner. No. 26 Richwood travels to seven-seed Patterson.

Coming off a dramatic 50-42 win over Oak Grove for the District 2-2A title, the Sterlington Panthers came in as the three-seed in Class 2A and host No. 30 Sophie B. Wright in a rematch of last year’s first round matchup.

Oak Grove came in at No. 10 and is guaranteed at last one game in West Carroll Parish against 23-seed South Plaquemines.

No. 25 Jonesboro-Hodge and No. 26 General Trass are both the visitors in the first round against eight-seed Loreauville and seven-seed Springfield.

The undefeated Mangham Dragons are the lone No. 1 seed in the area and set out the first round on a bye. Mangham gets the winner of 17-seed Montgomery and 16-seed Merryville.

No. 15 Delhi hosts a home playoff game against No. 18 Arcadia.

Rounding things out in Division IV select, six-seed OCS is the only area team with a home game as the Eagles await 11-seeded Covenant Christian.

St. Frederick looks to defend their 2013 Division IV runner-up finish with the 12-seed and a trip to No. 5 Southern Lab. No. 14 Delhi Charter faces three-seed Central Catholic.
