How many college football programs can really call themselves elite over the past decade?

There’s a couple that are obvious, but several others who have sustained success with conference or national titles that are a special season away from breaking through at the top of the rankings.

Continued success without hiccup is a challenge, especially when winning is often cyclical and based around several star-studded signing classes that create impressive depth along with coaching staff continuity.

A of the nation’s most dominant programs however seem immune to disappointing seasons and can roll out double-digit victories on talent alone. Earlier this spring, Alabama clinched its eighth No. 1 recruiting haul in nine years and nearly half of those classes have hardware to show for it.

Nick Saban’s dynasty is built to last in Tuscaloosa and the current Crimson Tide run is something that hasn’t been seen before in college football.

And most importantly for the 67-year-old head coach, he hasn’t lost that fervor to win.

“I don’t think we finished like we wanted to finish last year,” Saban said last week. “You’ve heard me talk about the Bama factor, and I don’t think we had all those ingredients toward the end of the season and I don’t think we improved toward the end of the season. And if you’re going to have a chance to win a championship, that’s critical.”
