Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday for asking the people of the state to keep the Abdullah and Mufti families away from power to ensure the state’s development.

Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to remind Modi of the BJP’s alliance with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and that it backed the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti to become the state’s chief ministers.

“This is how much Modi ji believes what he says. Look how happy he is to seal an alliance with one of the families he wants to rid J&K politics of,” he wrote on Twitter and posted a photograph of Modi hugging PDP founder late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Earlier in the day at an election rally in Kathua, PM Modi had hit out at Omar over his reported statement seeking a separate Prime Minister for Kashmir, and asked the Congress-led opposition alliance to make their stand clear on his statement.

He also went on to ask the people to keep the Abdullah and Mufti families away from power. “These families have destroyed lives of three generations. The bright future of J&K can be ensured only after their departure. They can bring their entire clan into field, can abuse Modi as much as they want but they won’t be able to divide this nation,” Modi had said.
