Penn State football is on the rise, Colin Cowherd says; what Saquon Barkley can do at the NFL combine, and more – PennLive.com

Today’s Penn State football news headlines feature Colin Cowherd and Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports raving about the Lions and a look ahead to 2018 (or beyond) and the damage Saquon Barkley could do at the NFL combine.

Feldman joined Cowherd on “The Herd” Monday, and they got into the foundation James Franklin has built at Penn State. While it’s not hard to see on the surface — and Feldman and Herd don’t exactly tell Penn State fans anything they don’t already know — their thoughts are a reflection of national opinion. Penn State is being taken seriously as a national factor in 2017 and beyond.

Roar Lions Roar’s Bill DiFilippo took a fun look into the future at what the media might be saying about Barkley when he (presumably) dominates at the NFL combine. That future could begin in 2018, when Barkley is first eligible for the NFL draft, or perhaps later. If Feldman’s sources are correct though, and Barkley is a top-five caliber pick, it’s safe to assume he’ll leave following the 2017 season.

In other Penn State football news, Black Shoe Diaries wonders who the Lions’ leading receiver will be in 2017. Andrew Callahan of Lions 247 and Craig Fritz from Roar Lions Roar have spring position previews, and PennLive’s Daniel Gallen looks at the best Big Ten performances from the NFL combine.

PennLive’s Bob Flounders, Greg Pickel and Dustin Hockensmith also talk Penn State football on the Keystone Sports Network. Check out audio from their latest podcast below.
