LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – We all like the idea of a dream vacation. And with summer right around the corner, some of you might be making plans. But beware! This time of year you may start to see vacation deals that are too good to be true.

They can come in the form of an email, or in this case a fax — vacation packages from TripAdvisor, United Airlines or Expedia. It’s offering a trip to spots like Cancun, Costa Rica and Bahamas, starting at $149 per person. 

La Von Harley says it’s a tempting offer.

“My daughter called, and the man said to her if you give me a credit card, we can give you a trip,” Harley says.

It turns out he wanted her information before giving her any details on a possible trip. 

“She said where is the trip going? What day will I go? He said, I can’t tell you that. Give me your credit card first,” Harley says.

That’s when Harley decided she wanted to talk to this travel agent. But when she questioned him, she says he got nasty and hung up. That’s when she knew for sure, this was no legitimate offer.

“We would never asked for credit card information without talking to the client. Without getting details on what you’re looking for,” says Abby Lagman, a travel adviser with A Destination Travel in Henderson.

She says your credit card information is the last thing an agent is going to ask for. 

“If they don’t have anything to hide, they should have no problem answering your questions,” says Lagman.

She says this deal is simply too good to be true.

“Starting at $149 per person, that should be a red flag,” Lagman says.

Realistically, she says you’re never going to get a deal for an all inclusive resort at a price that low. Prices are especially high for the coming months as people book their summer vacations. And Harley knows that. So she wants others to be careful.

“I just want them to realize that this is out there, and so that they don’t get taken by this,” Harley says.

So here’s the Contact 13 bottom line. Never call a phone number on an advertisement, until you go online and do some research. A quick search on Expedia and you’ll see this type of deal just doesn’t exist.

And if you decide to hire a travel agent, remember they’ll always need details first before asking for a payment. Where you want to go? How long? Flight prices. These are all factors to consider before they can give you a price.
