College football player shot multiple times in road-rage fight – New York Post

A University of South Florida football player is in stable condition after being shot multiple times Saturday night.

Defensive back Hassan Childs is hospitalized after his arm and torso were shot in what reportedly began as a road-road incident in Tampa Palms, Fla.

Police received a call from a man identified as Jovanni Jimenez on Saturday night, according to the Tampa Bay Times, who said Childs pointed a gun at him and his wife and child. According to Jimenez, he then pulled a gun on Childs, a senior from Kissimmee, Fla., and shot him.

“We are deeply concerned that an incident occurred overnight in which one of our players, Hassan Childs, was injured in a shooting,” head coach Charlie Strong said in a statement.

“Thankfully, Hassan is in stable condition and being well cared for, and no one else was injured. There is an ongoing investigation of the incident and we are in the process of gathering further information. Out of respect for the integrity of the investigation, we cannot comment further at this time.”
